Wiki Loves Africa 2026 Returns to Botswana — Pick Up Your Camera
The world's largest photo competition celebrating African culture is back, and Botswana's heritage, landscapes and everyday life need your lens.
Wiki Loves Africa 2026 in Botswana is here — and every photographer in the country is invited to take part. Wiki Loves Africa is an annual continent-wide competition that invites people to contribute freely-licensed photographs of African life to Wikimedia Commons, where they go on to illustrate Wikipedia articles read around the world.
How to take part
- Create a free account on Wikimedia Commons.
- Photograph Botswana's culture, people, places and traditions.
- Upload your images under a free licence during the competition window.
You do not need professional gear — a phone camera and a good eye for a story are enough. Photos of markets, festivals, food, architecture, landscapes and daily life are exactly what the project needs.
Why your photos matter
Botswana is still under-represented in the visual record of the open web. Every image you contribute helps illustrate an article, document a tradition, and make Botswana more visible in the sum of all human knowledge.
