Art + Feminism 2026: Closing the Gender Gap on Wikipedia

Through training sessions and open office hours, WCUGBW volunteers spent the Art + Feminism campaign writing women in art, culture and science back into Wikipedia.

Fewer than one in five biographies on Wikipedia are about women. The global Art + Feminism campaign exists to change that — and in 2026 WCUGBW volunteers joined editors around the world to help close the gap.

Training and office hours

The campaign combined a hands-on training session with follow-up office hours, where both new and experienced editors could get help with their articles. New contributors learned how to research reliable sources, write neutrally, and cite their work — skills that last well beyond a single campaign.

The impact of the sessions is recorded on the Art + Feminism 2026 dashboard.

Representation is knowledge

When notable women — artists, scientists, activists and leaders — are missing from Wikipedia, the world's most-read reference reflects a distorted picture of history. By creating and improving these biographies, our community helps ensure that the achievements of women in Botswana and across Africa are documented and discoverable.
